Need to free ourselves from war phobia
Ever since Army chief’s letter created doubts about our un-preparedness in the matter of war ammunition, there is news that defence department is going overdrive in placing orders for equipments and ammunition.
I really wonder why we can’t see the new emerging geo-political scenario. First, after the Second World War and especially with the birth of UNO in 1945 the definition of a strong and great nation has changed completely. Invading other countries usurping their land and enslaving other people, no more goes with the definition of a great & strong country and nor is it feasible any more. Only that country is mighty and qualifies to be a power house which can provide good standard of living-food, education, clothing & shelter, opportunities of socio economic and cultural development to its people - like USA, Japan, Singapore, Australia and even China now. In the face of this if we continue to live by creating war phobia in the minds of our people, we are only harming our own interest. Let us accept that none of our neighbours including China can attack us as we can’t attack any of the countries like Bangledesh or Nepal. Every one has its own basket of problems to handle. Moreover people everywhere want development and growth and are not prepared to accept animal living even if the size of the country becomes larger after the war victories. Keeping refugees and prisoners is not an easy for any country, any more.
Second, India being the largest importer of war equipments looks to be most vulgar and dehumanizing reality when we look at these facts- one third of the people who suffer from hunger live in India, we are far behind the average world literacy rate of 84% and India currently has the largest illiterate population in the world. 60% of India women and 47% children suffer from malnutrition. Other parameters like child and women mortality, Human development growth are equally agonizing.
Let us first understand that this creation of war phobia is by the selfish interests who make huge wealth in the import of war equipments and it includes our top army brass also. Again army like any other department or segment will not be comfortable if one talks of pruning the budget or down sizing because we fail to integrate country’s interest with our own interest.
What needs to be done--- Free our selves from this war phobia created by vested interests, cut down the defence budget by minimum 30%, down size our forces by 30% and make these efficient, reduce corruption level by bringing transparency in army purchases and recruitments and last indigenize production of army equipments otherwise of what good are these hundreds of Ordinance factories.

Arya Samaj had a great impact on Bhagat Singh
I read articles/ columns by the writers of different shades on the Shahidi Divas 23rd march. On this day, Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru and Sukh Dev were hanged to death for waging war against the British, for the freedom of the country. But, no body touched Arya Samaj’s influence on Bhagat Singh.
Fact of the matter is that Bhagat Singh had grown up in Arya Samaj influence. His grandfather, Arjun Singh, was a follower of Swami Dayananda Saraswati. It is worth mentioning here that his grandfather enrolled him in the Dayanand Anglo Vedic High School, an Arya Samaji institution ( at that time) which instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism to eventually take up the struggle for India's independence.
. If Bhagat Singh, after founding Naujwan Bharat Sabha in 1926, raised voice against un-touchability, birth ordained caste system and echoed equality of all human being i.e. all human being are born equal, it was mainly because of the influence of Arya Samaj. He drew lot of inspiration from Lala Lajpat who himself was a staunch Arya Samajist. Arya samaj at Hissar is raised with the donation of Lala Lajpat Rai. And eventually what triggered in Bhagat the fire of revenge against British rule was the assassination of Lala ji at Lahore when he was leading the protest march against Simon Commission in 1929.
Today when we are in 2012 and the story of freedom struggle is like any other epic to our present generation, if our leaders and writers undermine the contribution of Arya Samaj in the freedom struggle of India, they are right because Arya samaj, the institution with the glorious past is itself in deep coma. Today its identity is for instant marriages, sanskars and rituals karmkand, promotion of Sanskrit and Hindi, thanks to people who made deep inroads in to the institution after 1947 for vested interests. Situation has come to a pass when linking Bhagat Singh with Arya Samaj is considered to be a sacrilege but history can’t be erased so easily. “ Eighty percent of the persons who sacrificed their lives for freedom struggle, were either Arya samajist or got inspiration from Arya Samaj” these words of Sita Ram Ramiyya, the first speaker of Indian Lok Sabha will perhaps make the future generations to revisit Arya samaj and its founder Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati.

Chorus for Bharat Ratna to Tendulkar
Chorus for Bharat Ratna to Tendulkar
Ever since Tendulkar scored his 100th century, once again voices are being raised to award him with Bharat Ratna. All I want to say is that emotions should not cloud this important decision and in doing so the claims of other illustrious like Rahul Dravid, Ledel Peas ( the winner of 13 grand slams, last being in Australia this year) and many others should be kept in mind.

Why can't we do away with bi-elections? Hissar-a case in Point
If we kep in to consideration the collosus expenditure in terms of money and time both apart from the damage the bi-elections inflict on state governance- for a month Ministers are seen camping at the constituency undergoing bi elections, it will be appropriate to amend the constitution and do away with bi-elections.
The party can be given the option to nominate a person from the same constituency or the same family.

Country is slowly drifting towards political instability
Country is slowly drifting towards political instability
When I consider the conduct of regional parties in last twenty years who see virtue in advancing their own interests, I feel it is absolutely important for our country that either BJP or Congress win 250 seats in the next elections, though neither of the two look like achieving even 180. Congess is in for more difficult situation in view of Sonia's illness and Andhra developments which gave party maximum seats in the last to elections. But, at the same time nothing encouraging is there on the wall for BJP. Party does not have any programme which may attract voters. Thus I can see difficult time for the country in coming days. I don’t see much difference between these two parties except that Congress in centrally rather family controlled and BJP have its satraps who tactfully keep central leadership at bay and provide better governance in their respective states than their congress counterparts.
Both parties have good leaders. Congress should project A.K. Antony or Rahul as the future PM, rather best course would be to replace Manmohan Singh by either of these two at this juncture itself. I will prefer Antony to Rahul because Rahul does not give the impression of a person who will relish being on the seat of power contrary to what one had seen in Indira Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi in seventies. Rahul is more of a silent crusador who seems enjoying himself that role.Likewise BJP should give its command to Narender Modi without caring much for what media says about him. Nitish can be the second choice. Modi is the one person who is liked by the people from all walks. If people could forget similar allegation made on Rajiv then why there is so much fuss about Modi. Any PM has to be a mass leader. Country can not afford another Manmohan Singh. Thus BJP should forget about Sushma or jaitley who can not win even their seats on their own.Why Sushma who is from Ambala and spent initial few years of politics in Ambala only should avoid contesting from Ambala and instead beg a safe seat for her from the Madhya Pradesh CM. Such people have no right to aspire for the leadership of the country.

Both Kapil Dev and M.S. Dhoni are DAV products
It is really a great feeling for any institution to have country’s two World Cup winning captains to be its products.
I feel that the four noble souls to whom country will remain indebted for the grand work being done by DAV institution to spread literacy are-Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati who gave the slogan “Spread knowledge and vanish ignorance”. The other three are Mahatma Hansraj, Lala Lajpat Rai and Gurudat Vidyarthi who spearheaded the proposal in 1883 just after the untimely demise of Swami Dayanand to create memoriam in the shape of DAV educational institutions as a tribute to that great sage.
To create temples of learning rather than temples with some gods inside reflects the radical thinking of the great institution –Arya Samaj founded by Maharishi Dayanand Sarswati .
